Kinnaird Brothers
2005/ 2006 Collaboration Guitar
Project Page
Steve Kinnaird and John Kinnaird join forces this year to make an All American OM guitar. All the woods will be from the United States. The body will be Claro Walnut from the West Coast. The neck will be Black Walnut from the East Coast (more or less) The binding will be curly maple, the fingerboard and bridge and peghead overlay will be Desert Ironwood from the Southwestern States. Top wood will be Adirondack Spruce. We will use Waverley tuners. Nut and saddle will be made of bone that we occasionally find while walking around in a pasture in Texas.
This should be an incredible instrument whose conception and birth will be recorded in pictures in this web page section.

Walnut plates for the back of the guitar

Same walnut with a little alcohol on one side to help show color and pop the curl out.

Two possible fingerboard selections. Desert Ironwood top two samples. Texas ebony bottom two samples. Straight ebony in center for comparison. We have not decided whether to use the Desert ironwood or the Texas Ebony.

four tops from same flitch of sitka. All four show slightly different densities and different resistance to deflection. Uniformity is out the window. Everything gets tested
